Nov 21, 2009 - Alan Tschirgi in Pensacola, FL and I on Facebook chat decide to organize a Tschirgi family reunion in Dubuque.

DEC 3, 2009 - Called Mayor Buol (563) 564-5455. He answered the phone as Roy which kind of threw me. I was expecting a secretary. Had a nice talk. He said to stay away from July 4th as Dubuque becomes very busy. Alan and I had discussed that we probably want to stay away from any other major Dubuque activities. We estimated we could probably draw 100 to 150 people to the event. Mayor Buol asked me to contact the Visitors Bureau.

DEC 4, 2009 - Katy Simmons from the Dubuque Convention and Visitors Bureau called and left a voice message. I returned her call and left a voice message. Telephone tag - she's it! (563) 690-9208

DEC 7, 2009 - Katy called. She took some information. There is a street art festival going on all July and a Jazz in the park sort of thing the 31st. Other than that, Saturday, 30 July 2011 looks like our day! Katy is contacting all the motels in the area so we can get a good price and reserve a meeting place close. Mayor Buol said he might stop by.

FEB 8, 2010 - Signed contract to block 25 rooms at the Best Western Midway.  3100 Dodge St, Dubuque, IA 52003.  Be sure you tell them you are with the Tschirgi Reunion when you call 1-800-336-4392. Now we need to get the word out!  I will make a letter with the details and post it here for those who do not have internet.

March 9, 2010 - I have called all the numbers in WA, OR, CA and ID that come up on Superpages.com. Getting a good response. I can add a list of people I have called and maybe their phone and email addresses.

May 26, 2010 - It's been a pretty wild time for me. MY computer started crashing 3 weeks before we were to go on our 2 week cruise to Hawaii. I was scrambling to get all the information I could off the PC. To be fair, it has been running 24/7 for 3 years. So I'm on my new PC and getting it set up. I've lost the address to Brian in Montana or Idaho that I said I would send him the details in the mail. That in mind, I'm going to start over but this time take better notes and annotate the persons I call here.

My name is Jodie and I’m from Dubuque River Rides in Dubuque Iowa. We got some information that your family is coming to Dubuque in July. I’m not sure if you are looking for things to do, but we do have River Ride cruises that go out on the Mississippi River. Dubuque is a very beautiful city and it’s even more beautiful out on the river. We have cruises that go out daily from May to October. I am attaching a picture of both of our boats so you can get a more familiar idea on what they look like. If you are interested in finding out more about it please feel free to e-mail me or call me for more information. If you would like, I can also send you one of our 2011 brochures.

Thanks,

Jodie Reisdorf

Still trucking along. I'm about half way through my next list of telephone numbers. Joyce Tschirgi from Manawa, Wisconsin called and we had a nice talk. She said the original Tschirgi brought several Tschirgis over from Switzerland. Some to work in his brewery and some to work as farmers. That is an interesting theory we will have to explore. I will be making more calls today. I can't tomorrow as I will be working the Super Bowl in Arlington, TX. Sorry - I had to rub that in.

We do not have a separate genealogy department that has different hours than the Library. Our Saturday hours are 9 am - 5 pm. During the summer we are closed on Sundays.

Our genealogy resources include Iowa and Dubuque books, general genealogy titles, microfilm of local papers back to the 1860s, microfilm of state and federal census for Dubuque County, a local obituary index and in-house access to ancestry.com and HeritageQuest (online resources).

30 March 2011 - I have finished my list of Tschirgis. I'm going back over the list to make sure I hit them all. Also posting the notice on Facebook.

15 May 2011 - I think I have posted a group for the reunion on Facebook. Thanks Judith for reminding me.

30 April 2011 - I have my room reservations. Anna, my reservationist, said there were 6 others. Found out last weekend that my branchs first American served during the Civil War. Alois served as a Private in the Union Army. He joined 2 years before the war broke out. I thought he arrived to America after the war.
